Guides

PowerPoint's own guides, gathered onto one button: show them, hide them, and drop a new one on the slide without going to the View tab for it.

How to Use Guides

Click Guides to show the guides, and click it again to hide them.
Click the arrow below it, then Add Horizontal Guide or Add Vertical Guide to put a new guide on the slide.
Drag a guide to move it, and drag it off the slide to be rid of it.

Create from Selection

Guides that match what is already on the slide. Select the shapes and get a guide along each outer edge of the selection — left, right, top and bottom — so everything you place next lines up with it.

How to Use Create from Selection

Select one or more shapes.
Click the arrow under Guides, then Create from Selection.
Choose where the guides belong: Add to Slide, Add to Layout or Add to Master.
For one direction only, use Create Horizontal from Selection or Create Vertical from Selection, each offering the same three destinations.

Note: The guides go around the whole selection, not around each shape, and none is added where a guide already sits. Add to Slide appears in Normal view only, since slide guides belong to the presentation rather than to a master.

Delete Guides

Clear the guides out again — all of them at once, or only the ones on the level you mean.

How to Use Delete Guides

Click the arrow under Guides, then pick what to clear.

What each one removes:

Delete All Guides — every guide in the presentation: the slide guides, every master and every layout.
Delete from Master — the guides on the slide master.
Delete from Active Layout — the guides on the layout the current slide uses.
Delete from Slide(s) — the slide guides, which the whole presentation shares.

Note: Delete from Slide(s) is hidden in master views, where slide guides do not apply.
